Jim Roche is New WSU Institutional Research Director

PULLMAN, Wash. — Jim Roche is the new director of the Office of Institutional Research at Washington State University. Selected to the position after a national search, he started Dec. 4.

Roche came to WSU from EDUCAUSE, an international nonprofit higher education association. He worked in the association’s Boulder, Colo., offices. Previously, Roche was the association’s director of research and prior to that, communications director.

“In addition to expertise in research methods, Jim brings to WSU experience in benchmarking, market analysis and graphic presentation. We are excited that he will be leading our institutional research efforts,” said Karl Boehmke, WSU executive budget director.

Roche’s background includes serving as the American Association of Community Colleges’ senior editor; a University of Maryland journalism faculty member, and as a journalist on Illinois and Wisconsin daily newspapers.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, he earned a master’s degree in journalism from Marquette University and a mass communications doctoral degree from Indiana University.

Roche succeeds Jim Rimpau, now WSU interim vice provost for enrollment management.
