SEATTLE, Wash. — High school and community college students interested in careers in education and/or attending Washington State University are encouraged to attend the Future Teachers of Color recruitment reception in Seattle. The reception is scheduled from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Washington Athletic Club, 1325 6th Avenue.
Future Teachers of Color is an award-winning outreach program sponsored by the Washington State University College of Education to encourage minority students to be role models in their communities by becoming teachers.
This year’s reception is the seventh annual FTOC autumn recruitment event hosted in Seattle, according to program director Milton Lang. WSU faculty, as well as FTOC students and graduates, will be on hand to discuss admissions, scholarships and campus life, and to answer any other questions.
In addition to prospective students, Lang encourages parents and school counselors to attend the reception and bring any questions about enrolling at WSU. More than 200 parents, counselors and students attended the reception in 1999.
The keynote address will be provided by WSU Regent Ken Alhadeff, the Seattle businessman and philanthropist who has supported FTOC since its inception. The Charlotte Martin Foundation provides additional support for the reception.
Admission is free, and food and beverages will be provided.
