WSU to Host Annual Choral Festival

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington and Idaho high schools, junior high
schools and middle schools will participate in the seventh annual Washington
State University Choral Festival Oct. 28.

During the festival, students will work with clinicians and participate in a
number of workshops, said festival coordinator and WSU music faculty
member Lori Wiest. Festival instructors will include Charles Neufeld, Julie
Anne Wieck and Sheila Converse from WSU, Giselle Wyers from Boise State
University and Peter Wordelman from Eastern Oregon University.

Students also will attend concerts and clinics throughout the day and can
participate in other events such as vocal and vocal jazz workshop, presented
by WSU voice faculty Wieck and Converse, and VoJazz, under the direction of
faculty member Horace Alexander Young.

The festival will conclude at 7 p.m. Saturday in Bryan Hall Auditorium with a
concert featuring WSU’s Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers, directed by
Wiest; University Singers, conducted by Neufeld; and four invited choirs that
participated in the festival. The concert will be free and open to the public.

The School of Music and Theatre sponsors the annual festival.

Symphonic Choir with Jef Lant, director.
Oroville: Oroville High School Choir with Tom Lee, director.
Spokane: Lewis and Clark High School Belle Canto, Chamber Choir, and
Cantabile with Kathleen Blair, director; Salk Middle School 8th grade
Choir with Margo Dreis, director; Shadle Park High School, Shadle
Chorale with Randy Fink, director.
Veradale: Central Valley High School A Cappella Choir and Women’s
Chorus with Mike Elliott, director.

From Idaho:

Coeur d’Alene: Coeur d’Alene High School Concert Choir and
Women’s Select Choir with Terry Christensen, director.
Post Falls: Post Falls High School Troubadors with John Kracht,
director.
