PULLMAN, Wash. — An Oct. 10 concert, featuring the Washington State
University Jazz Big Band and the VOJAZZ 2000 vocal jazz ensemble, will be
presented at 8 p.m. in Kimbrough Concert Hall. The concert is open to the
public without charge.
The program will open with VOJAZZ, directed by Horace-Alexander Young
with the assistance of vocalist Sheila Converse and graduate student
conductor Julie Silvera-Jensen. The program will include Henry Mancini’s
“The Days of Wine and Roses,” as arranged by Gregory Yasinitsky,
coordinator of Jazz Studies; Lubbock’s “Not Like This,” as arranged by
Charles Argersinger, coordinator of theory and composition; and Phil
Wilson’s “Basically Blues.” Soloists will include vocalists Shon Parker,
Jennifer Palmason, Rachel Bade, Davin Stedman and saxophonist Jeremy
Hamilton.
The Jazz Big Band, directed by Yasinitsky, will perform “The Good Earth,” from
the Woody Herman library; “Exactly Like You,” as arranged by Argersinger;
and “Almost Like Being in Love,” as arranged by Hollywood composer Lennie
Neihaus. The program will also include Yasinitsky originals “Estero Sunset,”
“New York Confidential” and “No Clam Zone.” Soloists will include vocalist
Julie Silvera-Jensen; flutist Jessica Mardis; bassist Gus Kambietz; and
saxophonists Scott Ryckman, Sparky LaPlant, Clayton Daffron and T.J.
Bruning.
