WSU Named ‘Institution of the Month’ at TIAA-CREF Web Site

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Web site for TIAA-CREF, the Teachers Insurance
and Annuity Association and College Retirement Equity Fund, is featuring
Washington State University as its “Institution of the Month.”

During May, WSU is identified with a Pullman campus scene icon on the home
page of the TIAA-CREF “Web center” at www.tiaa-cref.org, said Barry
Johnston, the university’s director of Benefits and Payroll Services. Those
clicking on the icon are presented with the history of the university, as well as
some of its major accomplishments. In addition, there are two sidebar stories,
headlined “Pullman …The Heart of the System” and “Wired to Educate.”

“It’s pleasing to me and I’m sure it’s pleasing to faculty, staff, students and
alumni to have this positive exposure for WSU on this world-wide basis,” he
said.

Johnston believes WSU was selected for the feature because the university’s
land-grant mission and “commitment to transcending racial, cultural and
economic barriers in making quality education accessible philosophically
parallels the TIAA-CREF organization’s values.”

WSU joined the TIAA-CREF retirement system in 1947.
