PULLMAN, Wash. — More than 200 minority high school students and
community college transfer students are registered for the Future Teachers of
Color Conference at Washington State University Feb. 25-27.
The conference is designed to reach out to students from under-represented
groups who are considering careers in education or considering attending
WSU, explained Milton Lang, program director and college of education
director of student recruitment.
The maximum number of students has been registered, and many are on a
waiting list, Lang said. This will be the largest FTOC conference in the six-year
history of the program, he added.
The conference will begin with the arrival of groups of students with
chaperones on Friday, Feb. 25. Students will learn about financial aid and
admission requirements, eat at several restaurants on and off campus, attend a
WSU basketball game and sleep at dormitory or apartment rooms.
On Saturday, Feb. 26, the students will attend the FTOC banquet and hear the
keynote speech from WSU Regent and program sponsor Ken Alhadeff.
