PULLMAN, Wash. — The emphasis is on “getting ready” at this year’s technical
employer-student match-fest, sponsored by Washington State University’s College of
Engineering and Architecture.
The CEA Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in the halls of the
Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and ETRL Buildings on Spokane and College streets. Fair
officials note that it is a specialized event, not part of the WSU-University of Idaho Career Expo
of the Palouse, which deals with a broader range of occupations.
Companies will come to the fair with promotional items — free yo-yos, hot pizza, popcorn,
alarm clocks, candy, paper airplanes, handballs, sunglasses and stress relievers. In addition, 10
company representatives will provide tips from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, in Bryan Auditorium
on how graduates may best present themselves for the job market.
Representatives from Bechtel, The Boeing Company, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft,
Weyerhaeuser, Bentley Nevada, CRA Architects, Central Pre-mix and General Construction will
address questions about job-hunting including how to research the company; how to create
winning resumes, find internships and do a convincing interview; what’s the best strategy to
discuss salary; and how important are grades to snagging a job.
Students also are invited to post their polished resumes at
them for possible interviews.
Among the more than 60 firms expected to take part in the fair are The Boeing Company;
Microsoft; Schweitzer Engineering; Intel; IBM; Hewlett-Packard; transportation departments
from three states; government agencies; and construction management, chemical, computer
information technology and civil engineering companies. Profiles and Web sites of the

Proceeds from the companies’ participation fees go to the CEA student coordinating council
to support its annual projects and activities.
