PULLMAN, Wash. — Final plans are underway for Washington State University’s traditional
Homecoming Week, this year set for Sept. 28-Oct. 2 on the Pullman campus.
Events include student games and activities and cap off when the Cougars meet the
California Golden Bears for football in Martin Stadium Oct. 2. The theme for Homecoming is
“California’s Dreaming.”
The week of activities starts with living-group team banner judging. Banners will be judged
on creativity and artistic enthusiasm.
A lip-sync competition will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 28, in the Compton Union
Building Lair. Three finalists will compete at the Bonfire Rally on Friday evening.
A serpentine will be formed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Stephenson Complex
and will snake its way through Greek Row to Martin Stadium. Games begin at 7 p.m. and will
include skin the snake, tug of war, chariot races and a chant competition. Three chant finalists
also will compete at the Friday Bonfire Rally. Chariot race finals for the fastest three teams will be
held during halftime of the Oct. 2 football game.
A street fair will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, on the Glenn Terrell Mall. The
fair allows teams to raise money for philanthropic organizations. Cougar football coach Mike
Price will lead the Cougar Fight Song at the Bonfire Rally, which begins at 6:15 p.m. at Flag Lane
across Stadium Way from the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.
The third annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, in downtown
Pullman. Each team will create a float and follow the parade route along Main Street. The Cougar
Alumni Band will perform on the Terrell Mall at 11:45 a.m. At 1 p.m., the Cougars will meet the
California Golden Bears in Martin Stadium for an afternoon of PAC-10 Conference football.
Cougar supporters also will be able to attend volleyball matches at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept.
30, when the Cougar women meet USC, and again on Friday when the team plays UCLA at 7:30
p.m. Both contests are set for Beasley Coliseum.
Homecoming activities are coordinated by the Associated Students of Washington State
University’s Homecoming Committee.
Also a part of Homecoming weekend will be Land-Grant Day, Saturday, Oct. 2, when the
College of Agriculture and Home Economics celebrates the Land-Grant Act, which created WSU
and other land-grant universities around the nation.
