PULLMAN, Wash. — The College of Business & Economics and Information Technology’s
Student Computing Services at Washington State University have joined forces to offer courses
leading to industry-recognized certification in Microsoft technology.
Beginning Sept. 7, WSU will offer classes in Networking Essentials, NT Core Technologies,
Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Internet Information Server 4.0, Administering Windows NT 4.0,
and Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise.
This is the first time courses in Microsoft certification have been offered at WSU for
employees and students. All classes will be taught in Todd Hall’s Room 109, a state-of-the-art
electronic meeting room equipped with 23 networked computers, and in the Information
Technology Building training lab, equipped with 34 networked computers.
The courses are part of the Microsoft Authorized Academic Training Program designed for
the Microsoft Certified Professional program. Four WSU employees who have already been
through the program from Microsoft will be the instructors.
The courses are intended for anyone who wants to become a network administrator,
programmer or system manager.
The AATP teaches students how to develop, support and integrate computing systems
with Microsoft products such as the Visual Basic programming system, the Visual C++
development system, the Windows 95/98 operating system, and the Back Office family of
products. The courses are intended to help students prepare for the company’s certified
professional exams.
“The partnership of CBE and SCS helps us deliver the program in the best facilities with the
top instructors from both areas,” says Greg Neunherz, CBE’s director of technology.
“WSU students and technical support staff will now have an excellent opportunity to learn
important products and achieve industry-recognized certification to make them more valuable to
employers upon graduation and be better able to support the technologies of this institution.
This partnership will help us provide a great service to students and staff campus-wide,” adds
