PULLMAN, Wash. — Samuel L. Kindred, vice president of Business Affairs at Washington
State University, announced Friday his decision to change career directions.
“I have enjoyed my year here at WSU, but have realized that I want the opportunity to
explore other professional opportunities,” he said, indicating he expects to complete his
university work Aug. 6.
Kindred came to WSU following his retirement as brigadier general and deputy commanding
general of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command.
“Sam Kindred has been a very fine colleague on the university’s leadership team,” WSU
President Smith said. “I respect his decision, but at the same time I know that that Sam will be
missed.” Kindred brought to WSU a wide range of experience gained in assignments from
around the world in management, logistics and contract management.
Prior to his appointment to the Army Recruiting Command, Kindred held a variety of key
command assignments both overseas and stateside. He was a commanding general in Germany,
where he was responsible for logistical support for U.S. forces in Bosnia. He was deputy
commanding general of the Theater Army Logistical Command in Germany; executive officer to
the commanding general, Army Materiel Command, Alexandria, Va.; and director of Aviation
Logistics at the Pentagon.
A graduate of Hampton Institute with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Kindred
also earned a master’s degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan. He is a
graduate of the Advance Management Training Program at Stanford University, the Leader
Development Program at Colorado Springs, Colo., and several of the top Armed Forces
educational leadership programs.
