Week Against Hate Activities Continue on WSU Campus

PULLMAN, Wash. — University leaders and others will speak out against hate as part of
Week Against Hate activities that continue through Friday on the Washington State University
campus.
The 6:30 p.m. event, “Campus Speak-Out Against Hate,” is set for Thursday, April 8, in
Webster Hall, Room 17, and will feature several university administrators and Bill Wassmuth,
executive director of the Northwest Coalition Against Malicious Harassment. Among the
university speakers will be Ernestine Madison, vice provost, Human Relations and Resources;
Gus Kravas, vice provost for Student Affairs; Les Purse, vice president, Extended University
Affairs; and Karen DePauw, interim dean, Graduate School.
An afternoon discussion, “What You Can Do to Oppose Acts of Hate,” will be led by
Wassmuth at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Compton Union Building.
Other activities include a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the CUB, Room B19A,
sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Allies program. Melinda Huskey,
GLBTA director, is the speaker.
Also on Tuesday, faculty member Bill Pincheon of Comparative American Cultures will
introduce the video “Sugar Cane Alley” and lead a follow-up discussion. The program is set for 7
p.m. in Wilson Hall, Room 6.
The Multicultural Student Center is hosting an open house from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday,
April 7. Jim Nielson from the Koinonia House will present a program on religious tolerance at 7
p.m. in Coman Hall’s Formal Lounge.
Set for Thursday is a discussion and video, “Letters to Thien.” The program about violence
against Asian Americans is planned for noon in the CUB. CAC faculty member Rory Ong will
lead the discussion.
