Martin Luther King Jr. Arts and Essay Contest Open to K-12 Students

PULLMAN, Wash. — Kindergarten through high school students in Pullman are invited to enter the second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Arts and Essay Contest. Entry deadline is Jan. 12.
Sponsored by the YWCA of WSU and the WSU Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars, the contest offers gift certificates from the Bookie for first ($50) and second place ($25) winners at every grade level, says Liza Rognas, YWCA executive director.
“This year’s contest was designed by the scholars around themes — including truth, peace and justice — in the Rev. King’s teachings and writings,” she says.
Pullman youth may enter the contest individually or as part of a class project, Rognas says. Information about the contest for parents and teachers is available in Pullman school principals’ offices or by telephoning the YWCA at 509/335-3916.
Award winners will be honored and receive their certificates during a Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet and Awards Dinner set for Jan. 22. Additional banquet and dinner details will be announced later.
