PULLMAN, Wash. — Attorney and motivational speaker Patricia Russell-McCloud will deliver the keynote address Jan. 19 during Washington State University’s annual program celebrating the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
She will take part in the university’s traditional campus Unity March of students, faculty, staff and community members. The route of the march will be announced later.
Her address will be during a 7 p.m. program in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. It is free and open to the public. Program theme is “Vision 2000: Celebrating the Differences.”
Russell-McCloud is a former chief of the complaints branch for the Federal Communications Commission’s broadcast bureau, Washington, D.C. A Peachtree City, Ga., resident, she is a graduate of Kentucky State University and the Howard University Law School. Through her Atlanta firm, Russell-McCloud and Associates, she delivers speeches across the nation. She spoke at the 1996 WSU MLK celebration.
Her background includes service as national president of The Links, Inc., and as a board member for the Georgia Association of Minority Entrepreneurs and ANCHOR, a homeless center. She is a member of the National Bar Association, the NAACP, the National Urban League, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., of which she is past supreme parliamentarian. Russell-McCloud is a member of Atlanta’s Hunter Hills African Methodist Episcopal Church, where her husband, the Rev. E. Earl McCloud Jr., is senior pastor.
In addition to Russell-McCloud’s address, the Jan. 19 evening program will include music and presentation of the WSU Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards to students, faculty, staff and community members. Other speakers during the program will include WSU President Samuel Smith and Pullman Mayor Mitch Chandler. Additional program details will be announced later.
The WSU celebration comes on the day after the national, state and WSU “Martin Luther King Jr. Day” holiday. The Rev. King’s birthday is Jan. 15.
