PULLMAN, Wash. — Randy P. Baker, executive vice president of Oracle Corp. Support and Education Services, is the fall DeYoung Executive-in-Residence for the College of Business and Economics at Washington State University.
He will be on the Pullman campus Nov. 2 and 3 to talk with several classes and present a public lecture entitled “Oracle & You: Vision, Teamwork, Leadership.” It is set for 4:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 in Todd Hall, Room 276.
Baker is responsible for three lines of business in Oracle Corp.: Customer Support Services, Education Services and Business OnLine, a new venture offering outsourcing services to U.S. customers. These represent more than $3 billion in revenue for Oracle in fiscal year 1998 and they employ more than 7,000 professionals in some 100 countries.
Baker is also a member of Oracle’s Executive Management Committee. Before joining Oracle in 1993, Baker was VP of Worldwide Customer Support and Services for Tandem Computers, where he was responsible for pre- and post-sales activities such as benchmarking, design reviews, technical sales programs, inventory management for hardware, and strategy development and implementation. Prior to Tandem, he held leadership positions at IBM for 17 years in the systems engineering, product management and support divisions.
He received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from C.W. Post College of Long Island University. He completed an executive MBA program at Harvard Business School and a graduate program at IBM’s System Research Institute. He is a member of the President’s Cabinet at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The WSU College of Business is a member of the Oracle Academic Initiative and the Oracle Academic Alliance Program, which allow universities to work with Oracle Corp. to teach database materials to undergraduate and graduate students. This year in upgraded computer labs, management information students (MIS) are learning Oracle software. MIS is a growing area within the business college. Over the past two years, MIS majors have increased 400 percent — from 80 to more than 330. This fall in the college, a new Master of Technology Management degree became available to graduate students.
The DeYoung Executive-in-Residence program was established in 1973 and is sponsored by the Dennis DeYoung family of Kirkland. The program brings to campus prominent national and regional business leaders in the fall and spring to discuss corporate life from their perspective, and to interact with the university community. Past participants have included executives from U.S. Bank, Chevron, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Exxon, Remington Products, Boeing, Nike Inc. and PriceCostco.
