WSU Veterinary College Hosts Annual Horseman’s Conference

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will host its
third Annual Horseman’s Conference Oct. 24 at Daggy Hall.
The conference begins at 7 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
The daylong events include six short morning lectures, a trade show featuring private vendors and
nonprofit exhibits, and a choice of two afternoon courses.
One of the afternoon courses, “The Nature of the Horse,” is designed to show how to work with the
horse’s natural instincts. Riders will learn how to develop a secure seat and stay in the saddle regardless of
riding style.
Jan Dawson, author of “Teaching Safe Horsemanship: a Guide to English and Western Instruction,” is
the featured speaker. Dawson has served as an expert witness in several civil litigation cases involving
horses.
The afternoon’s second course focuses on the medical treatment of horses. It is designed for owners
interested in medical treatment information and features speakers from the WSU College of Veterinary
Medicine’s equine service and faculty from the WSU College of Agriculture and Home Economics. This
course is limited to 100 people.
