PULLMAN, Wash. — The Clothesline Project, a tribute to women as victims and survivors of
violence, will highlight the 1998 YWCA Week Without Violence Oct. 12-16 on the Washington State
University campus.
The clothesline of painted T-shirts, designed to raise society’s awareness about violence against
women and to aid in healing, will hang on Glenn Terrell Mall from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
On Tuesday and Thursday, Sigma Chi fraternity members will be near the Compton Union Building
handing out white ribbons to rally “Men Against Violence Against Women.”
The week’s daily activities start Monday from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. with WSU political scientist
Faith Lutze, who will speak on “Violence Against Women.” The program is set for CUB 214-216.
On Tuesday, a Sexual Assault Awareness Carousel Program is planned at the CUB at 7 p.m.
WSU students Daisy McIntyre and Patrick McAdams will lead a Wednesday discussion, “Dating …
Things That Are Just Unacceptable,” from noon-1:30 p.m. in the CUB’s Butch’s Den.
Thursday’s “No Tolerance For Violence” theme will be demonstrated by the Take Back the Night
Program and March starting at 8 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium.
Activities end Friday with a lecture about “Reporting Violence and Harassment.” The 11:45 a.m.-1:30
p.m. program, set for the CUB, Room B7-9, will feature panelists Cindy Empey, assistant dean of
students; Heidi Hutchinson, Center for Human Rights coordinator; and Bill Mercier, WSU Police chief.
