College of Business recognizes faculty, staff, students
PULLMAN, Wash. – Dean Eric Spangenberg honored outstanding faculty, staff and students at the College of Business annual awards event held April 24 in the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation Hospitality Teaching Center.
Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award: Gulnara Zaynutdinova, a graduate student in the Department of Finance and Management Science, is known for her organized and structured teaching in large classes. Students consistently give her above average evaluations and comment that she is always helpful and is one of the best instructors at WSU.

Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award: Doug Miller, a graduate student in the Department of Management, Information Systems and Entrepreneurship, has an outstanding research record and has produced an impressive number of peer-reviewed publications. He won the best paper award at the 2012 Western Academy of Management Conference and was accepted into the highly competitive doctoral consortium at the Babson Entrepreneurship Research Conference in 2011.
Outstanding Staff Service Award: In his new role as the Culver hospitality relations manager in the School of Hospitality Business Management, John Mangiantini helped organize a new degree program in Switzerland and works with its curriculum and program structure. His positive attitude and "can-do” spirit make him a truly outstanding staff member.
Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award: Department of Marketing Professor and International Business Institute fellow Patriya Tansuhaj forms long lasting bonds with many students who take her classes and stay in touch with her after graduating. As director of the faculty-led "Business in Northern Thailand” program, she has been involved in taking students to Thailand for more than 10 years. She specializes in international business, marketing and programs; marketing strategy; and third world development.
Outstanding Faculty Research Award: Arvin Sahaym, an assistant professor in the Department of Management, Information Systems and Entrepreneurship, specializes in organizational strategy of firms in high technology sectors, innovation-strategy, corporate entrepreneurship and global strategy for firms from emerging economies. His high research productivity in the last year resulted in three publications in high-end journals and four professional conference papers.
Outstanding Faculty Service Award: Val Miskin, a faculty member in the Department of Management, Information Systems and Entrepreneurship, serves the college in a variety of ways. He teaches large sections of core classes, works with students through the Carson Center for Professional Development, teaches workshops for the WSU Teaching Academy, advises the Cougar Entrepreneurship Club and chairs the Master’s Program Policy Committee.

Outstanding Clinical or Non-Tenure Track Faculty Award: Nori Pearson, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, demonstrates outstanding ability to coordinate and teach large numbers of on-campus and online accounting students - approximately 1,500 in 2011. She coordinates Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary financial professional organization, and works with firms that recruit business students. She assists in full-time and internship placements; chairs the accounting department planning committee; coordinates its newsletter; and chairs the accounting scholarship committee.
