THURSTON, Wash. - Farmers and chefs in the South Puget Sound region sustain a rich and growing agricultural economy, from oysters slurped at Olympia’s Acqua Via raw bar to fresh cut Christmas trees selected from the Schilter Family Farm.
To recognize this regional diversity, Savor South Sound brings together the growers, restaurants and chefs who contribute to the rich, local food economy. The free event will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Thurston County Fairgrounds Expo Center.
Space is limited. Contact George Sharp at georgesharp@visitolympia.com or 360-704-7544 to pre-register.
"Agriculture is often overlooked in the South Puget Sound, but it is a large part of our local economy,” said Lucas Patzek, WSU Thurston County Extension director. "With the growing interest in local food, this is a way to expose the diversity of our local food system.”
Savor South Sound will bring together panelists from Acqua Via and Schilter Family Farm - as well as Johnson Berry Farm, Chelsea Sea Farms, Flaming Eggplant Café and Whitewood Cider Company - for discussion about current issues in the local farm and food businesses.
The event will look at the realities of the South Puget Sound food economy with a message from Patzek. Speaker George Sharp, executive director for the Olympia Lacey Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau, will address the future of the local food economy.
Savor South Sound is presented by the Olympia Lacey Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau, Port of Olympia and WSU Thurston County Extension.
