Angry politics-The case for civility?
Monday, Oct. 29, 2012
PULLMAN, Wash. - In the current climate, how is it possible to reconcile deeply held convictions and spirited debate in our politics, while also maintaining the common bonds of citizenship? Does democracy require certain norms of civility or can a degree of incivility actually strengthen our democratic institutions?
These questions and more will be addressed by Cornell Clayton during a Foley Institute event from 4:15-5:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Foley Speaker’s room, Bryan Hall 308.
Clayton is Professor of Political Science in the WSU School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs, and the Director of the Foley Institute. He also is currently co-editor of Political Research Quarterly.
