Spokane-Pullman commuters forming vanpool

Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012

PULLMAN, Wash. - Information is being gathered to establish a vanpool(s) for commuters from Spokane to WSU Pullman, via Spokane Transit Authority.

Approximately 16 people have already expressed an initial interest, which means there might be enough for more than one vanpool.

From a money perspective, a van rents for about $1,200 per month (gas, insurance and maintenance included).

The vans can accomodate 7, 12 or 15 passengers, with the cost divided among those participating. Please note, the price does NOT change with the van size, so the more passengers, the lower the monthly cost.

Theoretically, if there were 13 regular commuters, the price would be less than $100 per month.

Commuters are encouraged to compare their curent transportation costs, including fuel, maintenance, etc.

The departure schedules will depend on what works for the largest number of commuters. In most vanpools, people share the driving responsibility (e.g., John drives this week, Jane drives next week), and drivers need to have their driving record approved by Spokane Transit, and attend a short class.

If you are interested in participating in a vanpool, please click on the following link and fill out the form, http://goo.gl/0R1pT.

If you know someone who is a Spokane to Pullman commuter, part- or full-time, please pass this information along.
