17-member committee selected
WSU launches search for next chancellor of WSU Tri-Cities

The committee is tasked with recommending top candidates to Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd. The committee will be assisted by R. William Funk & Associates, a search firm based in Dallas, Texas, that specializes in higher education leadership.
The search committee includes seven members of faculty and staff at WSU Tri-Cities; one from Spokane; one from Pullman; one WSU Tri-Cities student; and seven business leaders in the Tri-Cities — most of them members of the campus advisory council. Co-chairs are Mike Kluse, director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and chair of the WSU Tri-Cities Advisory Council, and Danny Talbot, clinical associate professor of educational leadership in the College of Education program at WSU Tri-Cities.
"The Tri-Cities is a unique community whose citizens have a passion for higher education, collaboration and progress,” Kluse said. "Our hope is that the next chancellor will embrace this entrepreneurial spirit as we continue to leverage the strong partnership between PNNL and WSU for even greater impact in our community and region.”
The next chancellor of WSU Tri-Cities will fill the role vacated in July when Vicky L. Carwein resigned to lead Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in Indiana.
The chancellor is the chief executive officer of WSU Tri-Cities and reports to the president of WSU. As the visionary leader of WSU Tri-Cities, the chancellor provides overall direction for campus programs, activities and services. The chancellor is responsible for academic leadership, fiscal management and the physical and human resource development of the Tri-Cities campus.
"The faculty, staff and students at WSU Tri-Cities are looking forward to finding a leader who will continue to foster campus growth and the delivery of a high-quality educational experience, especially in these times of limited resources,” Talbot said. "We are looking for a chancellor who will bring enthusiasm, experience and a strong commitment for excellence and opportunity to our campus and community.”
The search committee will accept confidential applications and nominations until the position is filled. Candidate screening will begin immediately. It is anticipated that the new chancellor will assume office by July 1, 2013.
