'Rising star'

David Cillay named chair of UPCEA network

David CillayPULLMAN, Wash. — David R. Cillay, assistant vice provost for Academic Affairs and executive director of the Center for Distance and Professional Education at Washington State University, has been named chair of the Online Management & Design Network for the University Professional & Continuing Education Association.
 
 "David has distinguished himself for several years by actively supporting and building UPCEA programs, and his appointment as chair of this Network shows the confidence we have in him,” said Robert Hansen, CEO of UPCEA. "He is one of the rising stars of UPCEA.”
 
The UPCEA is the leading organization for universities engaged in professional, continuing, and online education, and its six networks provide professional development, research and information, networking and communication, and awards and recognition of excellence in their practice areas.
 
"I am honored to be named to lead the Online Management & Design Network,” Cillay said. "I plan to strengthen the connections between continuing education professionals and share best practices and ideas that will help all of us.”
 
Cillay oversees WSU’s Global Campus, which includes its 3,100-student online degree program, WSU Online, and its conference management unit. He is a nationally known expert in the field of instructional design and educational technology, has been published in journals and textbooks, and has presented at national and international conferences.
 
Starting at the Center for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE) in 2003 as director of instructional development and technology, Cillay has been responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of online courses/programs scheduled for delivery through the CDPE. He also has taught and managed a graduate certificate program in instructional design.
