Shinew moves to Bowling Green
Interim co-chairs to lead department of teaching and learning

They replace the current chair, Associate Professor Dawn Shinew, who has accepted a position as director of the School of Teaching and Learning at Bowling Green State University in Ohio starting in July.
The appointments were announced by A.G. Rud, dean of the WSU College of Education. He said that a search for a new department chair will begin in the fall.
"In order to ensure a smooth transition from the exceptional leadership provided by Dawn Shinew. Professor Akmal will be on duty starting on June 16 to overlap with her final days on campus,” Rud said. "Professor Miller will start her co-chair responsibilities on Aug. 16.”
Akmal is an expert in middle school instruction. His research focuses on improvement of teacher quality and on the impact of educational reform and accountability movement on middle schools. He earned his Ph.D. in education from WSU.
Miller researches such issues as fetal alcohol syndrome, technology, multicultural special education, risk/resilience, and behavior/emotional disorders in children and adolescents. She earned her Ph.D. in special education at the University of Wisconsin.
