STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington State University Women's Rugby Club closed out a stellar season May 11-12, as it competed in the USA Rugby Women's Division II College Championship playoffs.

WSU was one of four DII teams in the national playoffs, and entered the event with an undefeated record. WSU earned a slot in the nationals on April 21-22, when it crushed its competition in the Pacific regional playoffs.

In the first round of the national semifinals, May 11-12, WSU suffrered its first and only loss of the season to Norwich University (Northfield, Vt.) The Cougars led Norwich going into the final five minutes of the game, but Norwich rallied and snatched the win, 28-15.

Determined to prove their skills and make the best of the tournament, WSU went on to beat Shippensburg University (Shippensberg, Penn.), 42-7, in the consolation round. Shippensburg is a perennial powerhouse, having won national champion in back to back in 2008 and 2009. WSU took the title from them in 2010.

Ultimately, Norwich went on to win the DII national title the following day, in a scorching 82-12 victory over Winona State University.
