PULLMAN, Wash. – The YMCA at Washington State University has announced the appointment of Michelle Eaton as executive director and chief executive officer. 

Eaton holds a doctorate in Human Services and Family Relations and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, both from Kansas State University. She also earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho in Family and Consumer Sciences: Child Development and Family Relations. She has been the director of two nationally accredited programs for young children, as well as the director of Early Childhood Services at the University of Idaho’s Center for Disabilities and Human Services. 

A Pullman High School graduate and long-time resident, Eaton brings a passion for working and living on the Palouse. She and her family have been active in community volunteerism and have more than 20 years of experience working with children and families. 

"I look forward to the opportunity to lead the Pullman YMCA, and to utilize my knowledge and experiences to promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in my community.  We will continue to offer current high quality programs, and I have plans in the future to expand on community programs based on needs,” said Eaton.

"Michelle brings a wealth of experience and passion into this position,” said Jud Preece, Chair of the YMCA Board of Trustees. "She was the leading candidate from day one. The YMCA, WSU students, the Pullman area, and all of our partners and participants are very fortunate to have her working in the community.”

The YMCA at WSU has a 12-member Board of Trustees and a variety of community youth programs. At WSU since 1894, the YMCA has started many initiatives using student volunteer leaders (ie. housing, new student orientation, community service) now provided by the institution.

 

The YMCA at WSU currently operates after-school programs in Pullman’s elementary and middle schools, provides academic mentoring for K-8th grades, manages Special Olympics for Whitman County, offers an Alternative Service Break program, and mentors WSU student volunteers through a nine-month curriculum in leadership development.  The YMCA is currently registering for their summer camp program for children ages 5-12.
