VANCOUVER, Wash. – For the second year in a row, a student advisor from Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) has earned recognition from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Jackie McReynolds, academic coordinator for the Department of Human Development at WSU Vancouver, has received the Outstanding Advising Award for her contributions to improving academic advising for students. In 2011, Karla Makus, academic coordinator for the School of Economic Sciences in CAHNRS, received the award.

"The fact that two academic coordinators in our college have received the highest honor from their national organization in consecutive years speaks volumes about the quality of advising and academic guidance our students are receiving,” said Kim Kidwell, associate dean for academic programs in CAHNRS. "Helping students find and navigate their path to degree is one of the most important things we do.”

Earlier this year, McReynolds earned a certificate of merit from Region 8 of NACADA. She advises around 140 students in the human development program at Vancouver.

Also a member of the WSU advising group, ACADA, she is responsible for training faculty mentors in academic policies and procedures. She is involved in the Vancouver campus advising group, the Zzusis Transition Task Force, the Chancellor’s Retention Task Force and the University Common Requirements course scheduling group.

"Jackie is an outstanding academic advisor,” said Thomas Power, chair of the Department of Human Development. "She is responsive and dedicated to our students, and she plays a major leadership role in academic and advising issues at the Vancouver campus. Many of us have benefited significantly from Jackie’s wisdom and commitment to a quality undergraduate experience.”
