History prof reads from his book as literary award finalist

SEATTLE - Peter Boag, a Washington State University history professor, Fulbright scholar and finalist for the 2011 Lambda Literary Awards, will present a public reading of his book, "Re-Dressing America’s Frontier Past” (Berkeley, 2011), at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Vermillion Art Gallery, 1508 11th Ave., Seattle.
The reading is among a series of events scheduled across the U.S. leading up to the June bestowal of the 24th Annual Lambda Literary Awards. Boag’s book is a finalist in the category of transgender nonfiction.
At WSU, Boag researches and teaches the history of sexuality in the American West, focusing on gay and lesbian history. His work, he said, is as much about cultural studies as it is about history.
For "Re-Dressing America’s Frontier Past,” he said, he examined literature, medical documents, poetry and history to revive and write a chapter of American history that has been deleted from the historical record.
Boag recently was awarded the 2012-13 Fulbright Distinguished Chair in American Studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tuebingen, Germany.
The Lambda Literary Awards celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender writing. Winners will be announced June 4 in New York.
