25 years with Seattle Times

Sports reporter, alumni, views 40 years of Title IX

Friday, Feb. 10, 2012

SEATTLE- Sandy Ringer, high-school sports reporter for The Seattle Times, began her journalism career as one of few female sports reporters.

Today, she looks back on 40 years with Title IX, a federal law enacted in 1972 to eliminate sexual discrimination. Female sports, as well as the ability to cover men’s sports, have come a long way since then.

Ringer graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication/journalism from Washington State University in 1975 and previously worked for the Valley Daily News in Kent. She is soon nearing her 25-year anniversary with The Seattle Times. Ringer is a member of several halls of fames for state high-school coaches and has won many state, regional and national writing awards.
