Success on the fairways

Men’s golf coach, alum, four-time top conference coach

Friday, Feb. 10, 2012

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Steve Card never planned to become a coach, but after taking the job as the associate director of athletics at Western Washington University, he also accepted the head coaching position for the men’s golf team.

Card attended Washington State University, where he played golf for four years and served as team captain his junior and senior seasons, and earned a bachelor's degree in finance ('87). He also worked at WSU after graduating and then moved to Bellingham, where his successful career went into full swing.

Card was awarded four consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year awards and is respected largely by the community and his team.  Card is also serving as chair of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Committee during the 2011-12 academic year. The appointment was made by the committee.
