Pullman-Spokane

Two-way van pools for employees, students in the works

Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011

PULLMAN, Wash. – Employees and students who anticipate job or class relocations between Pullman and Spokane, and those who already do that commute, are invited to consider participating in a van pool.

Washington State University faculty member Max Kirk wants to help facilitate economical, resource-saving transportation for employees and students starting in fall 2012. As a first step, he needs to know how many riders would use a van pool. The deadline to contact him is Nov. 30.

Kirk has spoken with Spokane Transit about using 12- or 15-passenger vans – probably at least one leaving Spokane and one leaving Pullman daily for round trips. He got a rough cost estimate of $120 per month per person if 10 people were in the van pool. That includes everything - gas, insurance, tire wear, etc.

But the details are preliminary; first he needs a head count. Anyone interested is asked to contact him by Nov. 30 via email at mkirk@wsu.edu. As a backup, you can phone him at 335-5074.
