BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Peter Anderson, a professor of pathology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a Washington State University alumni, has been awarded the 2011 Michele D. Raible M.D. Award for Distinguished Teaching in Undergraduate Medical Education by the Association of Pathology Chairs.

 

This award was established in 2010 to recognize individuals who have shown a remarkable impact on undergraduate medical education locally, nationally, internationally and virtually.

 

Anderson, the director of pathology undergraduate education, also received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges in 2008.  At UAB, he has also been the recipient of multiple departmental and university-wide educational awards.

 

In 2009, Anderson was selected to be a Fulbright specialist, which allowed him to assist medical schools around the world in designing and upgrading their curricula. During his time as a specialist Anderson has assisted the faculty at the Zambian Medical School three times.

 

Anderson received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. He then went on to obtain a doctoral degree in experimental cardiovascular pathology at UAB and joined the faculty in 1986.
