PULLMAN - Murder victim Peter A. Zornesand a beloved honors graduate from WSU’s neurosciences program, Peter A. Zornes, is being memorialized with a scholarship in his name.
This year was the first time the award was presented, and a check for $500 went to Emiko Namatame. Namatame is a junior majoring in neuroscience who has been accepted into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at WSU. Namatame was selected because of his exceptional dedication, hard work and leadership,an extraordinary interest in neuroscience.
Zornes was 25 at the time of his death, was the innocent victim of a double murder-suicide in December 2005. He is remembered for his kind nature toward others, incredible academic skills and his love of sports, especially baseball and golf.
His friends and family have worked tirelessly to keep his memory living in the spirit he would have wanted—through an academic scholarship and a memorial golf tournament.
The Peter A. Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held June 21, at the Colfax Golf Course beginning at 11 a.m. A $12 per plate dinner and a daylong silent auction will highlight the day.
Local businesses have donated items for the auction to raise money to endow the scholarship.
