Yan-Ming Li
Successfully balancing school, work and home responsibilities, Yan-Ming Li is a full-time graduate student, works 20 hours as a teaching assistant and serves as a surrogate parent for her teenage sister. Within these responsibilities, Li is among the top students in the WSU Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles (AMDT) and has completed two degrees from Washington State University.
In 2005, Ming began her journey as an undergraduate and earned a bachelor of arts in International Business and Marketing and has now completed a master’s in AMDT. Her thesis focused on applying experimental auction methodologies to determine consumer’s willingness to pay for branded apparel products. Li has proven to be a respectful and attentive student showcasing professional, thorough and innovative work.
Li was also awarded a full-time teaching assistant position in the AMDT department, a very limited and competitive role. In addition, Li was a research assistant for a spring 2010 project funded by an internal grant for the Agricultural Research Center. Li worked in the field talking to consumers and collecting data on consumer behavior and grocery purchases.
Most importantly, Li has provided a nurturing and supportive environment for her sister as a surrogate parent. Li’s teenage sister moved to Pullman from Saipan in 2008 in search of better educational opportunities. This spring, her sister will be graduating from Pullman High School and has been accepted to attend Purdue University to study Food Science in fall 2011.
