Leanne Whitmore
Leanne Whitmore is a double major who will be earning two bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and in genetics and cell biology this May. Whitmore has a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and she has been actively engaged in undergraduate research since the fall of 2008 on a NSF-funded plant genome project between John Wyrick and Tom Okita.
Whitmore has developed extensive expertise and a unique skill set in working with bioinformatics tools to analyze genetic and genomic data. Her mentor said she is very bright, and driven to succeed in achieving her goals and aspirations.
Whitmore was also supported by the NSF-funded undergraduate Biology and Math research program at WSU. A very motivated student, Whitmore always showed a genuine interest and passion in completely understanding course content. She has been praised for her desire and ability to always “do more than she was asked.”
She will be continuing her education at WSU this fall when she joins the Ph.D. program in the School of Molecular Biosciences.
