University Publishing wins national best of show

unanimous winning entryPULLMAN, Wash. – University Publishing recently won the best of show award for non-offset (digital) printing at the national conference of the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA). The unanimous winning entry was the Washington State University Foundation Gala program booklet.

Best of show was chosen from 17 gold award-winning entries; three of those were from WSU.
 
“We are pleased that the University Publishing staff once again has been recognized at the national level for its craftsmanship, dedication and excellence in print production,” said Edward Sala, interim director of University Publishing/WSU Press.
 
Seventy-five organizations submitted 482 print entries for judging. University Publishing received three gold, one silver and two bronze awards for excellence in non-offset printing (see earlier article here).

Steven Rigby, director of printing at University Publishing, accepted the awards on behalf of his team.

 
“It was very gratifying to be presented with this prestigious award by our peer institutions,” he said. “This recognizes the printing professionals at University Publishing for their commitment to excellence in quality and for their contributions to the university.”
 
In addition to receiving annual printing excellence awards, University Publishing earned the National Management Award from IPMA in 2000, 2006 and 2009. It recognizes an in-plant for innovation, management practices and contributions to the parent organization.
 
Other universities competing this year included Ball State, Bucknell, Central Michigan, East Carolina, Oregon State, University of Oregon, University of Oklahoma, Texas Tech, University of Delaware, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska and North Texas. Corporations competing included Briggs & Stratton, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Hershey, Kohler, LDS Church, Church of Scientology, Nestle Purina, Rochester Institute of Technology, Wells Fargo and World Bank.
