July 24-Aug. 1: Modern musical ‘Edges’ performed at WSU

Pasek,-left,-and-PaulPULLMAN, Wash. – The contemporary musical, “Edges,” will be presented Fridays and Saturdays, July 24, 25, 31 and Aug. 1, by the Washington State University School of Music in Bryan Hall.

Tickets will be available at the door one hour before each performance. They will cost $10 for students and senior citizens and $15 for general admission.

“Edges” is a humorous, insightful celebration of young people on the verge of adulthood. It was written in 2005 by Tony-nominated composers Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. The cycle of songs explores issues of self-discovery, relationships and even the Facebook phenomenon.

In 2012, Paul and Pasek’s “A Christmas Story” debuted on Broadway to critical acclaim, a long run and a Tony nomination for the songwriters. They wrote the score to the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach.” The second season of the NBC TV series “Smash” featured their original songs.

The WSU production is directed by Julie Anne Wieck, WSU associate professor of music. It will include a cast of six student singer/actors:  Melody Chang, Katerina Tsatsomeros, Miriam Estrada, Ryan Lustgarten, Nathan Sansburn and John Hannan. They will be accompanied by Esther Hayter, piano, and Ian Steiner, drums.
