Oct. 2: Free symphony orchestra concert features guest artists

orchestra-230PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Symphony Orchestra will begin the 2014-15 season with a free, public concert featuring guest artists at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in Bryan Hall.

Assistant conductor Rachael Kone, a graduate student, will open the performance with Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide.” Danh Pham, director of bands, will guest conduct Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance Military March, No. 4.” Many know and love the famous graduation march, No. 1.

WSU cello professor Ruth Boden will join the orchestra as a soloist performing the first movement of Dvorak’s epic “Cello Concerto.” In addition, the orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s “Ballet Suite No. 1.”
